Nearly half of all NFL teams have shown interest in signing former rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit following his shock switch to football.

The 23-year-old has agreed to a deal to join the Kansas City Chiefs, and his move to the Super Bowl champions will end on Friday.

Rees-Zammit had also reunited with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos after 10 weeks with the International Player Pathway.

But, according to the player’s agent, more than 12 of the league’s 32 teams had shown interest in the former Welsh winger.

“Louis has impressed the dozens of coaches and scouts who have met with him over the past few weeks,” Roc Nation Sports’ Kimberly Miale told Mail Sport. “More than a dozen teams had shown interest.”

Rees-Zammit spent 10 weeks at the IPP in Florida, culminating at this month’s pro day, when he and other international hopefuls showed off their skills in front of NFL scouts.

In recent months, recruits have been put through their paces on the field and in the classroom, with Rees-Zammit given a crash course in route running.

The Welshman hopes to play running back, wide receiver and on special teams where his rugby experience could allow him to utilize a kick returner.

‘His athleticism and versatility make him a standout in the IPP program. Louis has a very exciting career at the moment. He’s an incredible athlete and a great person,” Miale said.

“I can’t wait to see him develop and excel during the upcoming NFL season. The goal is to play on an NFL team and help win a Super Bowl.”
