Brighton have announced the signing of Brazilian striker Joao Pedro from Watford for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old will join the Seagulls on a contract until June 2028, when the summer transfer window opens.
Pedro, who moved from Fluminense to the Hornets in January 2020, has scored 11 goals in 35 Sky Bet Championship games this season.
David Weir, Albion’s technical director, told his club’s website: “Joao has been a long-term target of ours and he has also attracted a lot of interest from all over Europe.
“He is a brilliant young talent, technically very good, fast and with an eye for goal. He will complement our existing vanguard very well.

The Brazilian has been a target for the club for a long time and looks set to become a key member of their first team

Roberto De Zerbi’s side has been one of the stories of the season, but how many players will remain after this summer remains to be seen
“He’s settled in here (in England) well too, with good experience in both the Premier League and Championship and more than 100 appearances for Watford.”
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi described Pedro as a “great player” last week.
He scored a total of 24 goals in 109 appearances in all competitions for Watford.
While the cost of the transfer has not been disclosed by either club, a statement from the Hornets described the initial fee and possible add-ons as ‘one of the very highest’ in English Football League history.
“It should come as no surprise to anyone that Joao Pedro is now leaving us for the Premier League,” Watford technical director Ben Manga told his club’s website.

Alexis Mac Allister’s performance this season has alerted a number of clubs, including Liverpool
“Supporters will understand that this agreement is good for everyone involved. This early action will allow us to plan an effective transfer window as we try to build a competitive team for next season.”
Brighton is expected to have a busy summer, with further purchases and the seemingly now usual range of spending.
Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentine midfielder who has lit up the Amex this season, looks set to leave with Liverpool reportedly going in circles.
