A client discovered the ailing conditions after visiting the property to purchase a puppy for $5,000 in January 2022.

RSPCA WA immediately launched an investigation which prompted an inspector to visit the property to assess the ailing conditions.

A spokeswoman said the putrid sight so outraged the customer that he refused to go through with the purchase.

“There were large piles of trash present, lots of dogs running around barking and fighting, and the older dogs had matted, dirty coats with feces on their fur,” he said.

“One was glued to the side of the bed and another was seen drinking standing water from an open and broken sewer pipe.”

RSPCA WA inspector manager Kylie Green added that the dogs appeared to be suffering from more than just physical injuries.

“Many of the dogs and puppies also suffered significant psychological damage, as determined by a veterinary behaviorist,” he said.

“Some of them just stayed in their kennels for weeks after they first got here, staring at the wall and refusing to interact.”

The dog breeder pleaded guilty to 28 counts of animal cruelty.

Bunbury Magistrates Court heard that the man had no regard for animal welfare and hoped to cash in on his popularity.

He was fined $112,000 and ordered to pay additional compensation of $28,140.

The 60-year-old was banned from owning an animal for three years, while the Crown lost labradoodles.

“This is what people should stop and consider when looking to buy a ‘cute’ puppy,” said Ms Green.

“If you buy from an unregistered breeder, if you buy online or on social media, or if you buy without seeing that the puppy is being raised in clean and safe conditions and that its mother is happy and healthy, then there is a chance that you’re supporting.” this kind of cruelty.
