Sam Phillips has revealed he felt a little uncoordinated after a dramatic scene on the set of Bridgerton.

The 40-year-old English actor, who plays Lord Debling in the period drama, saved Nicola Coughlan’s character Penelope Bridgerton from an errant hot air balloon.

“It didn’t go as planned,” Sam told Australian current affairs show The Project on Friday night.

“I had to do a scene where I had to jump in a hot air balloon. I had to do a kind of heroic jump to save Nicola’s character, Penelope,” he explained.

“Most of the time it felt like I was holding her in a headlock,” he added with a laugh.

“We had to do it six or seven times, maybe more. I was shocked at how ungainly I looked,” she said.

Nicola, 37, previously described the scene as quite difficult and said the pair had to learn stunts to pull it off.

“The hot air balloon scene was crazy because it wasn’t initially written as intensely as it actually was,” he said. Teen Vogue.

She continued: ‘I thought, ‘You’re kidding! ‘ And we had to go and do full stunt rehearsals. I had to, so to speak, lie on a mat.

‘Sam Phillips tackled me like a pro, at one point he was so hard his coat stuck to my wig and we were stuck together.’

“And they said, ‘Click. It’s all over the Internet now. There we have it.'”
