Bridgerton and Pam & Tommy nominated for National Television Awards

Bridgerton and Pam & Tommy were among the popular series receiving recognition at the 2022 National Television Awards as the long list was revealed.

The annual awards ceremony will return to the OVO Arena Wembley on September 15 and will once again be hosted by Joel Dommett, having taken over from David Walliams last year.

A variety of the best television shows have made this year’s long list, with Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton received a nomination in the Recurring Drama category alongside Killing Eve, Peaky Blinders and Top Boy.

In the same category, which saw a staggering 27 shows nominated, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, Gentleman Jack and The Handmaid’s Tale were also recognised.

Pam & Tommy topped the New Drama category and was up against A Very British Scandal, Anatomy of a Scandal and Conversations with Friends.

Other nominees included Landscapers, starring Olivia Coleman, The Tourist, Martin Freeman’s The Responder, Trigger Point, Hulu’s Dopesick and Netflix’s Heartstopper.

Meanwhile, Drama Performance has seen nominations for Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn for Conversations with Friends, Lily James for Pam & Tommy and Jonathan Bailey for Bridgerton.

Also up for the award are Joanna Scanlan for The Larkins, David Tennant for Around the World in 80 Days, Jodie Whittaker for Doctor Who and Claire Foy for A Very British Scandal.

Julia Bradbury’s moving documentary Breast Cancer and Me has been nominated for Auteur Documentary, as has the late Tom Parker’s film Inside My Head, Stand Up To Cancer.

They take on Gemma Collins: Self-Harm and Me, Jay Blades: Learning to Read at 51, Paddy and Christine McGuinness: Our Family and Autism, Katie Price: What Harvey Did Next, Kate Garraway: Caring for Derek, and a variety from other programs.

Emerging talent was also recognized in the Rising Star category, with nods to Conversation With Friends’ Alison Oliver, Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran, who played Edwina Sharma, and Heartstopper’s Joe Locke and Kit Connor.

A staggering 44 shows were nominated in the Factual Entertainment category, with nominations for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Craig and Bruno’s Great British Road Trips, Gogglebox and The Tinder Swindler.

But it was Gordon Ramsay who dominated the category, receiving recognition for two of his shows: Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars and Gordon, Gino and Fred Go Greek.

In the comedy category, popular shows like Derry Girls, After Life, Brassic and Sex Education could all get the gong.

Britain’s Got Talent and Dancing On Ice received nominations for Best Talent Show, while soap operas Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale were nominated for Serial Drama.

And the Serial Drama Performance category saw recognition given to EastEnders’ Danny Dyer, Meena Jutla, who plays Paige Sandu on Emmerdale, and Rose Ayling-Ellis, who stars in EastEnders as Frankie Lewis.

The TV Host category featured a star-studded list of nominations, including Alison Hammond, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, This Morning’s Ant & Dec, Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, Maya Jama and Graham Norton.

Married at First Sight UK also received a nomination at The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Awards, along with Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof, Kate Garraway’s Life Stories, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Too Hot to Resolve.

On the other hand, Jay Blades of The Repair Shop was recognized in the Expert category, where he faces Gordon Ramsay, Prue Leith, Lord Alan Sugar, Joe Wicks and Tan France.

This year’s host Joel Dommett took to Instagram after the long list was revealed to urge people to vote for their favorite TV shows, as he shared his top pick.

He wrote: ‘Oh baby! It’s that time again… @officialntas voting is OPEN! Click the link in my bio…no pressure but Masked Singer is great.’

Voting for the 2022 NTA Awards is open until 11pm on Monday, June 6, while the shortlist will be announced in August, when the final round of voting will open.
