A wedding requires so much time, expense and planning that the least most brides and grooms expect is for their guests to behave well in return, but that is sometimes an illusion.
People have chosen Wedding Shame Thread on Reddit to share some of her wedding guests’ craziest experiences, from drunken antics to ignoring the dress code.
A recent bride began the post on the US site by explaining some of the complaints from her wedding guests, including one of her mother-in-law’s best friends who showed up dressed in white.
‘Like pure white. He head to toe. Even the shoes,’ she explained.
“Listen, normally I think it’s ridiculous that I give a damn about a middle-aged woman’s wardrobe, but since wearing white to a wedding is such a notorious faux pas, I wonder if she was trying to put me down.”

Another problem he had was that the guests were ignoring the formal dress code, and one was even wearing UGG boots.
She said: ‘I had a formal wedding in winter. All guests saw the dress code on the invitation. My aunt showed up wearing ugg boots. UGGS! Many people were wearing light wash jeans and casual sweaters, including the photographer who knew the dress code.
But that was not all, because the attendees also ignored his request not to use the phone.
‘I had an unplugged ceremony, announcement and everything, and people still took out their phones. This one makes my blood boil.
Fellow commenters on the platform were quick to share their own horror stories about bad guest behavior.
“My bridesmaid’s boyfriend drank 8 martinis and threw up in the women’s bathroom,” one recalled.
Another chimed in: ‘My own mother interrupted my vows. Sometimes I still hear her scream “Louder!” while I’m falling asleep.’
People in casual clothes were also a problem for another bride who was horrified when one of the guests turned up in denim capris and flip flops.
She wrote: ‘I got married at 7pm on a Saturday night in February (in Oregon) so I figured people would dress up a bit since it was nighttime.
“I live in rural New England and have attended several weddings where the guests wore football jerseys.”
Another added a lighthearted touch with a joke about a young party member.
‘One of the guests at my wedding was a companion I had never met. “I introduced myself, held out my hand to shake his and he put it in his mouth, sucked on it, took it out and shook my hand, leaving it dripping with saliva,” she wrote.
‘I should mention that he was a 6 month old baby and his transgression was totally forgiven because of how cute he was.’
