The Australian woman said she spent ‘many hours’ in the kitchen perfecting her cake styling using mudcakes from Woolworths, Coles and Aldi.
She made her own buttercream frosting to put together three cakes with a rustic touch to match the theme of her wedding day – save her hundreds of dollars.
The cakes used included a $ 7 red velvet from Coles, a $ 4.80 ganache of Woolworths white chocolate, and a gluten-free passion fruit orange almond.

How to Make Buttercream Frosting
125 butter, softened
1 1/2 cups of soft icing mixture
1 tablespoon milk
Beat butter with an electric mixer until pale, scraping the sides of the bowl.
Add the powdered sugar mixture and the milk and beat to a nice smooth glaze.
Spread the buttercream over a homemade or store-bought cake.
‘Practicing mudcakes for hours on end taught me how to put my wedding cake techniques to good use,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.
“I am so happy with the results.”
After several attempts at styling her cake, she shared the ‘lessons learned’ after being able to make her own desserts.
She suggests refrigerating or freezing the cakes before styling them.
To assemble the cakes, she gently wiped the layers with warm water.
“This will help the cream stick better, especially when cutting the cake,” she said.

For a middle layer of whipped cream, she sprayed thick icing over the edge of the cake.
Then scoop the filling around the outline of the pie pan. Smooth out and add the next layer of cake. This makes it easier to spread the icing evenly on the sides, especially when making “naked” ice cream cakes. I’ve used commercial or homemade buttercream, ”she said.
Expect to apply two thin coats to the outer layers of the cake for best results. The first “crumb” layer keeps the cake pieces from going into the last ice layer. ‘
