A bride tried to cut costs at her wedding by using instant powdered mashed potatoes instead of confetti during her exit from the ceremony.

One photographer revealed that she worked at a wedding where the bride ordered boxes of instant mashed potatoes as an inexpensive option for confetti, flower petals or rice for guests to toss as the couple left the ceremony.

She said the mashed potatoes ended up “everywhere,” including in guests’ hair and clothing, when “confetti” mixed with sweat and spilled drinks.

The story has been making the rounds online to the horror of many who criticized the ‘bizarre’ budget stunt as ‘disgusting’ and ‘disgusting’.

However, some thought the hack was a good idea saying it’s a better choice for the environment.

Thousands were horrified after a photographer revealed they worked at a wedding where the bride had guests throw instant mashed potatoes instead of confetti.

In a post to a Facebook group shaming weddings, the photographer said: “Funny story so a bride went cheap on her confetti outing and they ordered boxes of ‘instant mashed potatoes’.”

“Let’s just say with sweat and spilled drinks from the night everyone ended up having mashed potatoes everywhere.”

She said there was mashed potatoes all over the floor, as well as in guests’ hair and inside their clothes, but they were undaunted and “carried on with the party.”

People were horrified by the mashed potatoes and wondered why the bride would use the unorthodox powder as a substitute for confetti.

Photographer: This is the only mistake wedding guests make when throwing confetti

Throw the confetti into the air…not directly at the couple.

By throwing it in the air, it will stay in the air longer and will look much better in photos.

Be careful when you start throwing things at people. Have someone tell your guests to throw the confetti into the air, not into the couple’s face.

Rice hurts, paper panels are sharp, confetti is a potential choking hazard for babies, and confetti cannons are legitimately dangerous if used irresponsibly. Give them to responsible people for their use.

‘Instant mashed potatoes as confetti is unimaginable in my head. Like what the hell? a woman wrote.

“Yeah, I forgot mashed potatoes were cheaper than confetti,” said another.

‘Rough! Someone did NOT think about what happens to dehydrated foods when they sweat. Even ‘normal’ amounts of sweat,’ noted a third.

‘Why would you ever do that? Bubbles. Or I don’t know, dried lavender is from the damn earth. That might have been what we used, I can’t remember. Or just don’t throw anything away. But potatoes?? asked a fourth.

Some thought the confetti trick was hilarious and wished they had been invited to the wedding.

‘I love this. Not that they did, but that they did. You know? Like WTF but also hahaha for being a fly on the wall! someone answered.

‘Wow, what a terrible choice, but to my own amusement, thanks for making it,’ he laughed for a second.

Others were skeptical about whether the story was true before one person came forward with more details.

‘This really happened, and it continues to happen. Dehydrated potatoes do not need to be cleaned like paper, are safe for wildlife and do not harm the environment,” they said.

“In the case of this specific story, the couple was doing a photo shoot at the reception instead of taking place after the wedding, so it ended up being a disaster.”
