Fanning and Scott’s new Netflix limited series, Ripley, debuted on Friday.

The drama follows the exploits of con man Tom Ripley (played by Scott), with Fanning taking on the role of Marge Sherwood, the girlfriend of Ripley’s friend Dickie Greenleaf (played by Johnny Flynn).

This adaptation is based on the acclaimed Tom Ripley novels by Patricia Highsmith, which were previously brought to the screen in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law.

Gwyneth’s portrayal of Marge led to comparisons to Dakota’s portrayal of the character.

However, Dakota confessed that she in no way tried to copy Gwyneth’s performance while preparing for the role.

Speaking in an interview with British Vogueexplained how different the two adaptations are and admitted that she didn’t find the film useful for her portrayal of Marge.

“I revisit the movie because I love it, but I didn’t find it useful in terms of playing Marge or getting into this world because the vibe of it is completely separate,” Dakota explained.

He added: ‘Marge also has ulterior motives. She’s also somewhat taking advantage of this situation she finds herself in for her own benefit.’
