Brentford’s promotional hero Emiliano Marcondes has no idea if he’ll play in the Premier League next season, despite a man-of-the-match display in Saturday’s championship play-of-final.
The Danish midfielder, 26, who scored second in the Bees’ 2-0 win against Swansea, is out of contract this summer and has yet to reach a deal with the club.
Marcondes said: ‘I have long hoped and waited for a new contract. But I’ve kept my concentration on training and on the field, and focused on what I can control.
Brentford’s Emiliano Marcondes has admitted he doesn’t know if he will stay with the club
‘I have no control over a new contract. Of course I hope to play Premier League, it is my biggest dream. To get out of a small town in Denmark and get to the Premier League would be incredible. ‘
Top scorer Ivan Toney, 25, who converted a first-half penalty yesterday, dropped a strong hint that he will stay with Brentford next season, despite the interest of a host of Premier League clubs.
Toney: ‘It’s a great bunch of guys, the best locker room I’ve been in and loved every minute of it. I am in the Premier League with the best guys I could have ever dreamed of. ‘
