Brentford manager Thomas Frank was proven right in his decision not to risk Ivan Toney against Sheffield United as he backs the “best player” to show his quality against Luton.

In a game that cried out for a clinical touch in the final third, Thomas Frank showed great foresight and impressive restraint in not risking Ivan Toney against Sheffield United.

Of course, a 63rd minute goal perhaps eased the pressure on Brentford to field their talisman, but with relegation still a credible threat, Frank would have been forgiven for calling up the striker, who is still recovering from a hip injury.

Needless to say, a player of the England striker’s caliber will prove instrumental in the Bees’ quest to remain in the top flight, a challenge made all the easier with a first win in two months.

Only three Brentford players have more league goals than Toney this season, and he only played his first game on January 20.

Thomas Frank showed great foresight and impressive restraint in not risking Ivan Toney.

“We now have time to prepare him for Luton (on Saturday) and I am convinced he will be ready,” Frank said.

“It is very difficult not to start Iván because he is our best player. He is fantastic and not feeling the temptation to start him was the right decision.

“Now I hope he shows on Saturday how good his decision was.”

Toney remained on the bench as he watched his team get the three points on Saturday.
