Celtic have rejected a £10million offer from Norwich but are now on the brink of paying a significant sum for a player in the final year of his contract.

A deal for the 23-year-old is believed to have been agreed and will be formally announced once the final details are ironed out.

The Scottish giants drew 1-1 with Brentford’s sister club FC Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier on Tuesday evening, but Ajer was not involved.

Brentford has also confirmed the signing of midfielder Frank Onyeka to a five-year deal from Midtjylland.

The Nigerian was the club’s first signing this summer, signing a five-year contract after being given a work permit.

He must now undergo a period of isolation before he can start training with his new team-mates for their Premier League opener with Arsenal on August 13.

Brentford’s preparations continued on Tuesday evening with a friendly 2-0 win over Boreham Wood.

Ivan Toney and Tariqe Fosu found the back of the net in both halves in what turned out to be a comfortable win at Meadow Park.
