Ron Jans was forced to change against Go Ahead Eagles in the second half after injuries at Sem Steijn and Joshua Brenet. In front of ‘s camera ESPN the trainer explains how the two players are doing and he discusses the election of Gijs Smal as Man of the Match.
It is obvious how Jans views the development of Gijs Smal at FC Twente. “Yes, with great pleasure”, reports Ron Jans. “He had to wait a long time and fight for a base place. But today Joshua Brenet should have rewarded him for a great pass with the outside. But Brenet just didn’t time well with the assumption of the ball. But Gijs has to continue like this.”
“What he has also improved enormously is that, at Volendam and with us, he was often wrong and sometimes involved in goals against,” explains Jans. “But that is only very minimal at the moment. I don’t know whether Gijs was rightly King of the Match today, because we are with that 1-1 and leave two points. But Gijs is heartily awarded.”
Jans also discusses the nature of the injuries of Sem Steijn and Joshua Brenet. “I think Sem is a bruise, that’s not too bad, with Brenet it’s a groin injury, that looks a bit more serious,” is the diagnosis of the trainer.
