A California man has been arrested for raping a paralyzed woman in her apartment 24 years after the horrific crime took place.

Michael Lamonte Evans, 50, is accused of breaking into an East Bay woman’s home on Dec. 6, 2000, and sexually assaulting her.

The victim — who was paralyzed from the neck down — was asleep and home alone when the aggressor sneaked in through the sliding door of her apartment, Concord police Sergeant Chris Souza said. The Sacramento Bee.

But the case “stalled” after DNA samples collected at the time did not lead to any arrests, according to a statement from Concord police. The samples were entered into a national database.

The department announced Wednesday that the Special Victim’s Unit discovered that Evans’ DNA matched collections from more than two decades ago.

Evans, a Los Angeles resident, was already in custody in Los Angeles County on an unrelated parole violation. His DNA was added to the database earlier this year after he was arrested for another sex crime, The Sacramento Bee reported.

He was charged with forcible rape by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and his bail has been set at $1 million.

Evans will be extradited to Contra Costa County to face charges, the department said.

“We are deeply saddened that the victim in this case passed away several years ago,” the department wrote.

‘We would like to express our gratitude to her friends and family, whose support and assistance was extremely important in this investigation.’

The vulnerable woman died in 2015 for unknown reasons.

Souza said “this crime was particularly heinous” because she “could not defend herself,” according to The Sacramento Bee.

In a strikingly similar crime, a Utah man pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping his disabled stepdaughter earlier this year.

Brian Kenneth Urban, 52, was caught on camera brutally attacking Ashley Vigil, 31.

The woman died weeks after Urban pleaded guilty in April.

Vigil had a rare genetic condition called Rett syndrome, which hinders brain development. Fewer than 1,000 people in the US have the disease; almost everyone with the condition is a woman.

Before this horrific attack, a Haitian migrant was accused of raping a disabled teenage girl at a Boston shelter in March.

Cory Alvarez, 26, was charged with child rape after arriving in America through President Joe Biden’s Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan (CHNV) parole program.

Alvarez pleaded not guilty to aggravated rape of a child.

He had entered the country through the Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV) parole proceedings.
