This morning broke their silence about Phillip Scofield as it became clear he won’t be returning to the show for weeks amid his brother’s sexual assault trial.
The presenter famously disappeared from the couch this week as his younger brother Timothy Scofield, 54, faces trial for having sex – with co-star Holly Willoughby joined by other presenters.
And while the ITV daytime show has remained silent due to Philip’s absence, they shared a special message on Instagram for the star on Saturday to celebrate his 61st birthday.
Alongside the photo of Philip smiling with the confetti effect falling around him, write this morning: “Happy birthday @shofe, from everyone this morning.”
This was accompanied by other photos of Phillip on the show, with shots including one of them laughing with longtime co-star Holly, 42, and cuddling with co-star Alison Hammond, 48.

Unlike previous This Morning posts on Instagram, the comments have been turned off for this purpose amid the ongoing trial against Philip’s brother.
Scofield has been absent from the show since Monday and will also be absent next week, meaning duo Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary – who usually host the show on Fridays – will take over.
Earlier this week, Alison Hammond stepped in in place of Schofield alongside Holly Willoughby, before Joel Dummett, 37, took his place on Wednesday.
It was announced during the show on Thursday that Allison and Dermot, 49, would replace the couple for the usual two-week Easter break.
The duo’s break has already been scheduled by ITV, but this means Schofield will miss at least three weeks of shows before he returns to the air.
Timothy Scofield faces a total of 11 counts of sexual offenses committed against a teenage boy over a three-year period from October 2016.
He denies all the charges against him, which include performing sexual acts in front of the accused, and witnessing sexual acts and sexual practices.
Phil’s co-host Holly Willoughby highlighted the 60-year-old presenter’s absence on Monday: “Phil is having a week off so all the adults have left the building and Alison has come!”

It has yet to be confirmed when Holly and Phil will return to This Morning as a duo, but it will now be at least several weeks.
Holly herself stated on the show that she would be off screens for “a couple of weeks”.
Phil is a witness at the trial and a statement from the presenter was read out this week to the court, after Scofield admitted sexual acts he performed with the teen to his older brother.
The TV presenter told his brother it “shouldn’t happen again” and later gave a police statement that forms part of the case against his younger brother, the court said.
This week Exeter Crown Court heard how Schofield traveled across the country visiting his TV presenter brother in ‘a fury’, saying he was about to end his life.
When he arrived, a statement from Phil described how he was doing laundry when his brother began telling him about a sexual act he and the teen had had together.
In a statement read out to court on Wednesday by Attorney General Robin Shellard, Philip recalled how he received a call from his brother on September 12, 2021.

“It was the weekend and he asked if I was able to talk,” he said. Tim was on an extreme rampage.
He said he was about to commit suicide. He said his head was a mess and everything was a mess.
Schofield allegedly wanted to open up after being confronted by the victim the previous month – but horrified the presenter when he got into graphic details.
He continued, “We ended up having dinner and I was taking a shower. Tim was standing behind me and said you’re going to hate me for what I have to say.
I said there was nothing he could say that would make me hate him.
He (alleged victim) said they spent their time together and last year watched porn and hung out on the couch.

I turned around and said, “What did you just say?” Then Scofield said it was “a moment where we got together”.
“Tim said it’s just this once and I told him it shouldn’t happen again,” Philip said.
Then the defendant began to describe the body of the alleged victim, and Philip shouted: “F***, stop!”.
“I told him this had to stop,” the statement continued. I didn’t want to hear any of the details, but it just seemed like it was a one time thing.
I said I don’t want you to tell me anymore. No matter how it happened, it must never happen again.
He said it was just about time. I said “what the hell is this?” Phil said he never spoke to his brother about it again.
