Tarjla Beleza nearly shocked her friends when they received an invitation to her upcoming birthday that looked like a keepsake card from a funeral.
The 31-year-old accountant from the city of Teresina in northeastern Brazil was looking to generate some buzz around her special date next month when she came up with the viral idea.
“It was a night when I was doing nothing, talking to a friend who didn’t want to go out partying this year,” Beleza told DailyMail.com. “I had seen similar models before and decided to do it to see how my friends would react.”
Beleza searched the Internet for sample cards that funeral homes produce to hand out to funeral guests and created an invitation for her Aug. 17 birthday party.
The card had a blue background with a photo of her smiling with a flower on either side. Above her photo was the phrase “Celebration of Life” and below it was “2024.”

Tarjla Beleza told DailyMail.com that she came up with the idea for the birthday invitation after one of her friends told her she wasn’t in the mood for parties. To generate excitement, she created an invitation that looked like a memorial card from a funeral.
Below her photo, she added a dove on each side with a special message for her friends in Portuguese.
“Life is short. We are all here to make the most of each day as if it were our last,” she wrote. “And so I did and will continue to do. I am stopping by to invite you to celebrate my life on my 32nd birthday, of many to come.”
Beleza texted the invitation to her friends, and while the friend who wasn’t in the mood to celebrate burst out laughing, her other friends feared the worst.
“At first they were scared, hahaha,” Beleza recalls. “They were afraid that something had happened to me, that I had really died. Then they laughed at the invitation.”
For now, Beleza is not sure what the theme of her party will be.

“I say I want something very lively, but I expect my friends to make jokes about the theme of the party,” he said.
Have you thought about placing candles and flower arrangements while each of your guests wears shirts with your photo on them.
Or maybe you’ll go for something a little more subtle.
“But I think it will really just be a barbecue, something very simple,” Beleza said.
