Brazilian striker Edilson claims to have overshadowed Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar by winning the World Cup
‘Forget Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, I’m the best’: Brazilian striker Edilson claims he overshadowed the star trio in his prime by winning the World Cup
- Edilson made the sensational claim that he was better than the star trio
- The attacker made a name for himself at the Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Corinthians
- He scored 6 goals in 21 games for Brazil and won the 2002 World Cup
Former Brazilian striker Edilson has made the sensational claim that he was better than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar at the peak of his career.
The trio is often hailed as the top three players in the world and in the case of Messi and Ronaldo, two of the best players who have ever played the game.
However, Edilson, who made a name for himself with Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Corinthians on either side of a loan period at Benfica, claimed that he had overshadowed all three players because he won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002.
Edilson claims he was more talented than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar
“At my best, I played better than Neymar. He has to win the World Cup to be better than me, ” he told TV Bandeirantes.
“I have personality and want Messi to be better than me, then he must also win the World Cup.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is just power, he hits the ball well with both feet, but I am more skilled than him.”
The attacker was part of the Brazilian squad that won the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan
Ronaldo and Neymar both reached the semi-finals of the competition, while Messi was only 90 minutes away from the glory of the World Cup, while Argentina lost to Germany in the 2014 final.
The lack of an international honor is the only flaw in Messi’s illustrious career, with a record 438 goals in the La Liga for Barcelona.
In the eternal Messi vs Ronaldo debate, the 35-year-old Portuguese international has the advantage of winning Euro 2016 and playing in three of Europe’s biggest leagues with Manchester United, Real Madrid and now Juventus.
