A 41-year-old man admits to murdering his girlfriend and putting her body in a refrigerator after she threatened to kill him.

A man is in police custody in the central Brazilian state of Goiás after he confessed to murdering his girlfriend and hiding her body inside a refrigerator because she allegedly threatened to kill him and rip his head off.
Giovanni Oliveira killed the woman on June 29, but was arrested on Saturday near his residence in the municipality of Aparecida de Goiânia after Military Police detained him for suspicious behavior when he was seen trying to hide an unknown object.
The 41-year-old man was allowed to leave after police were unable to find anything illegal on him.
However, they became increasingly suspicious when he became agitated by questions about the whereabouts of his girlfriend, who was known to the police for breaking her ankle monitoring device.
Oliveira proceeded to allow them into the house before fleeing from the police.

Brazilian authorities have yet to release the name of the woman who was suffocated by her boyfriend, Giovanni Oliveira, on June 29 and found hiding in a refrigerator on Saturday.

After being unable to locate him, the officers returned to the residence and saw bloody marks splattered on the floor, including near the refrigerator, the door of which had a wooden stick covered with duct tape.
Later, they opened the door and found the woman’s body inside a black bag.
The policemen began a manhunt and were able to detain Oliveira without incident.
When questioned, the suspect calmly admitted that he had “put it in the fridge.”
“I packed it in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge,” he said.

Brazilian police officers had to remove a taped wooden pole to open the refrigerator where the body of a woman was found.
Oliveira explained that he had no choice but to kill the woman in self-defense.
“She threatened to kill me, she said she would cut my head off,” he said.
Oliveira, who has three prior arrests, recalled that he tried to prevent his girlfriend from leaving the house when he attacked her.
“I started to choke her and by the time I saw her, I had already hit her head on the ground,” he said. She was bleeding. Then I left the house and when I came back she was dead.
Court records reviewed by Brazilian outlet Metropoles show that Oliveira’s first arrest and conviction came in 2009. He was arrested in 2018 after escaping from the Odenir Guimarães Penitentiary and getting parole for good conduct.
