A Brazilian man is in custody after he allegedly murdered his wife and then took a selfie with her corpse and sent it to his friends and family.
José Torres, 39, stabbed Daniele Vieria, 34, at his home in the northeastern city of Itopororoca on Thursday.
Torres took a photo of him and Vieria and sent it by text message to the family.
He tried to kill himself by stabbing himself, but paramedics rushed him to Mamanguape General Hospital, police chief Sylvio Rabelo said, according to Brazilian news outlet G1.
Vieria feared for her life and sent multiple messages to her godchildren’s mother on Thursday.

Daniele Vieria approached the mother of his godchildren via text message and wrote: ‘Help me, he wants to kill me’, moments before her husband stabbed her to death.
One of the messages sent at 12:48 a.m. said: “Help me, he wants to kill me.”
However, her desperate cry for help went unanswered because her son’s godmother was sleeping.
He didn’t see the messages until five in the morning and ran to the house, where he found Vieria dead.
Rabelo said Vieria had been attacked by Torres on two occasions.
“This culminated in this criminal act,” he said.
Vieria leaves behind a 16-year-old son. DailyMail.com could not confirm whether the child was from her relationship with Torres.
Police said Daniele Vieria was beaten several times by her husband, who murdered her Thursday at their home in the southern Brazilian municipality of Itopororoca. She leaves behind a 16-year-old son.
Torres remained hospitalized and will be transferred to the local police station once doctors clear him.
A similar incident occurred in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná in December 2022, after a 44-year-old Gilmar Ferreira man stabbed his wife, 40-year-old Adriana Carvalho, to death.
Ferreira took a photo with his wife of nine years and posted it on social media.
He tried to cut his wrists and neck, but was rescued by paramedics and taken to a hospital, where doctors saved his life.
