Brazilian gang ‘filmed themselves killing 21-year-old woman, hacking her body to pieces and putting it in a suitcase’

  • A Brazilian Homicide Department received a video of a person being hacked to pieces on March 1, but was unsure what to think
  • On March 13, Gabriela Lima Santana, 21, was officially reported missing
  • Municipal officials discovered a body on March 24 that had been put in a suitcase when an arm was thrown at a worker before landing and floating in the water
  • Santana could be identified by fingerprints and a distinctive tattoo

In a heinous crime, a Brazilian gang is said to have dismembered a young woman and put her body in a suitcase before it was later found by a city council employee.

Gabriela Lima Santana, 21, was reported missing on March 13, although she may have been missing before that.

Nearly two weeks earlier, police had received a video of a woman they now say Santana is being dismembered in a bathroom.

Santana’s body was not found until March 24, when city officials in the southern Brazilian city of Capao da Canoa came across her remains while digging with an excavator in a ditch.

While the ditch was being excavated, an arm flew from a suitcase to one of the workers, who eventually landed in the water and floated near the top.

Forensic experts also discovered parts of a head, trunk, legs and arm in the case.

Also included in the luggage were two kitchen knives and saws, probably used to cut Santana into pieces, and stones that could have helped the suitcase sink.

Santana could only be identified by her fingerprints and a tattoo, which was allegedly associated with a local gang, raising concerns about possible gang retaliation.

Prior to Santana’s discovery – and before she was even reported missing – the local homicide department received a video on March 1 showing a woman being dismembered in a bathroom.

That video shows someone smiling while hacking into pieces a person’s corpse, with bags across the floor that may contain more body parts.

According to The American sun, it is not clear how the police obtained or who provided the video.

Two suspects have been arrested: a 49-year-old man who appeared in the footage, and the 23-year-old man who allegedly filmed the video.

Gang violence is a serious concern in Brazil and resulted in a terrifying school shooting last month.

A teacher at the Sobral Pinto municipal school in Rio de Janeiro’s Praça Seca neighborhood recorded a video in March showing at least four children sitting in the middle of the hallway while shots rang out.

The students covered their ears and seemed calm as the involved instructor kept them calm during the tense moments.

The video was posted on social media by local activist Rene Silva and attracted more than 2 million views.

Rio de Janeiro military police attributed the shooting to rival criminal groups fighting for control of the Praça Seca, the favela or the slum.
