Brandon Miller made a bold promise to win the NBA championship to Charlotte Hornets fans after some booed him when the franchise selected him in the draft on Thursday night.
Miller, the controversial Alabama forward, was taken with the No. 2 pick by the Charlotte Hornets and the fans didn’t seem so pleased.
The general consensus in the draft was that the Hornets, who picked second place, would choose Scoot Henderson or Miller, but they landed this past Thursday night after holding a series of meetings earlier in the day.
However, their fans didn’t seem happy with the decision, as videos on social media showed them booing the screen when the pick was announced.
But Miller appeared unfazed by the lack of support from his new fans as he pledged to present the Larry O’Brien Trophy to prove those wrong.
“To those who boo, I’m here to let you know that we’re going to get a lot of wins this year. I’ll definitely try for the big trophy at the end.”

Brandon Miller made a bold promise to win the NBA championship to Charlotte Hornets fans

Hornets fans across town booed Miller’s selection over Scoot Henderson
“To those booing, I’ll let you know that we’re definitely going to get a lot of wins this year,” Miller said. Charlotte Sports live.
“We will try to hold this big trophy at the end. I’m just going to have a lot of winners around me.
Miller had made a similar promise in another interview, promising Hornets fans that they would see their team clinch the league title in the end.
“I see the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Finals next year. Hopefully we get that big trophy in the end,” Miller told WCNC’s Ashley Stroehlein.
“My message to Charlotte Hornets fans would be that you will see us all at the end of the year holding this big trophy,” Miller later said.
Several videos showed Hornets fans vocally booing Miller’s selection – whose first season was sometimes overshadowed by his alleged role in a Tuscaloosa murder.
Tuscaloosa police testified that Miller delivered a handgun to teammate Darius Miles, which was eventually used by another man, Michael Lynn Davis, to kill the woman.
While Miles and Davis are still in jail awaiting a capital murder trial, Miller has not been arrested in that case. His attorney says he never handled the gun and had no idea the shooting would take place. Miller’s trainer Nate Oats said it was a “wrong place, wrong time”.

WFNZ’s Kyle Bailey reported that Miller was booed not once, but twice by the “overwhelming majority” of Charlotte fans when ESPN filmed him.
WCCB-TV’s Kelli Bartik shared a clip of Hornet fans’ immediate reaction to Miller’s pick announcement in the Spectrum Center with boos heard as well as some fans standing up and giving a thumbs down.
Speaking on the eve of the draft, Miller said he expected no further action from police, having initially said the incident was “the only thing I can’t talk about”.
A fan spoke to WBTV reporter Cam Gaskins, visibly showing he was tired of the team’s decisions in recent drafts.

Miller has not been charged with a crime, but he allegedly provided the firearm in Harris’ death
‘Michael Jordan. You’ve owned the Hornets — the Bobcats — since I’ve been a fan, man,” the angry fan began. “And every time I think you’re about to do something, like bad, you do something worse.
“Hornets fans have been through it all since day one. We’ve drafted more busts than any franchise. We had to endure so much.
“It affected my mind to be a fan of this team. And the moment I think, ‘Okay, this is it, this is our breakthrough’, we write Brandon Miller.
“So I’m rooting for the guy, I guess. It was the wrong choice, but I support the guy.
