For months, the 49ers held firm on their offer and didn’t give Aiyuk what he wanted in an extension.

Aiyuk posted a video on social media FaceTiming with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, where he listed that Washington and the Pittsburgh Steelers have their preferred destinations in case things don’t work out in San Francisco.

Ultimately, Aiyuk got the market rate and received a four-year, $120 million contract.

The contract also comes with $76 million guaranteed and was anticipated with Aiyuk set to earn at least $47 million before touching an NFL field again.

The 49ers began the season as one of the NFC favorites to return to the Super Bowl.

Seven weeks into the NFL season and several teams appear to be better positioned to make the playoffs than the defending NFC champions.

The Packers, Lions, Vikings and Commanders have looked dominant this season in a way that the 49ers have not.

San Francisco has another tough test Sunday night, facing an old rival, the Dallas Cowboys.
