Dinah required medical attention at Greenwich Hospital for issues unrelated to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, but was later released to the care of her family.

And speaking to Lorraine from his home in London, George shared his relief that his mother had left the environment where she could contract the killer virus.

He said: ‘My mother is fine, she is back home now. She was in the hospital for two days, luckily it wasn’t corona related so that’s good.

“And it wasn’t what we initially thought, so it was all about getting her home from the hospital because obviously with everything that’s going on, my mom is 82, so it’s not the best place for her.”

Reflecting on Dinah’s time in hospital, George admitted that she received the best possible care from dedicated NHS workers who did everything they could to keep her spirits up.

“I managed to talk to her on the phone, which was a lot of fun,” he recalled. ‘There was a really beautiful moment where this nurse was singing to mom, and my mom was like, ‘I can’t hear you, take off your mask!’

George previously asked fans to pray for his “beautiful mother” after doctors said they “won’t be resuscitated if things go wrong” after his hospitalization.

On Twitter, the Culture Club star wrote: ‘My beautiful mum is in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

‘A problem with your heart or lungs. Is she stable but they said they won’t revive her if things go wrong? Apparently, it will not work? How can they know? Pray please! @LG_NHS.’

In 2017, he detailed how he once kept his mother alive after she overdosed.

Speaking on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, he said: ‘She took pills. I remember keeping her awake and not really understanding what had happened.

Referring to the problems between his mother and father, George had said: ‘I used to tell my mother to leave my father when I was nine years old.

“I loved my father, don’t get me wrong, I really loved him, but he wasn’t a good father or a good husband.”

George also said: ‘My father was quite an extreme man. (He) could lose his temper and throw out the entire Sunday dinner and everyone would go hungry.

“He would hit us all the time, he would hit us, but everyone in the ’70s was hitting you. It happened a lot.

“He would go crazy quite easily, but he was also extremely charismatic and funny. He was a complete contradiction and it wasn’t until I was 15 or 16 that I realized how strong my mother was.”
