Boy, 14, dies after ‘isolated incident’ at school

A 14-year-old boy has died after an incident at a school in West Lothian.

Emergency services were called to St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn on Tuesday.

The school said there had been an “isolated incident” on the premises.

The student was taken to hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

A spokesman for Scotland Police said: “At around 1.20pm officers were called to a report of concern about a 14-year-old boy at a school in the Bathgate area.

“He was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment, but died a short time later.

“His family has been notified and an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the death.”

A statement on the school’s website said: “We can confirm that emergency services have been called to St Kentigern’s Academy following an isolated incident on the school grounds.

“All parents of students directly affected have been contacted and we are assisting the relevant authorities with their ongoing investigations.

“We have put in place emotional support and signage for students affected by today’s incident and are unable to comment at this time due to an ongoing police investigation”.
