A 12-year-old boy died after being hit by a Sheriff patrol car from Bergen County on Sunday evening.

The boy, unidentified but known from Fair Lawn, walked with his brother and two friends on Route 208 south of Fair Lawn Avenue when the incident happened, as reported by the New Jersey Record.

It was around nine o'clock in the evening. when he was fatally hit by the police car.

The officer who controlled the marked cruiser was Michael Sansevere.

Sansevere is a 10-year veteran assigned to the K-9 unit who was patrolling Route 208 at that time.

He was taken to the hospital to be checked.

Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton called Sansevere an extraordinary officer.

The Bergen County Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident.
