An 11-year-old boy was shot dead by a nine-year-old after they found a gun in their car when they were left alone in a Walmart parking lot in Dallas.

The boys were left unattended by a 32-year-old woman on Sunday afternoon when she went shopping, police said. They have not disclosed the woman’s relationship with the children.

Authorities say the nine-year-old boy found the gun in the car and used it to shoot the 11-year-old.

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The two boys were not related, ABC 8 reports.

Police have not released the identity of the children or the 32-year-old woman.

A Dallas police spokesman said: “When officers arrived at the site, they found an 11-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The complainant was transported to a local hospital and was declared dead there. The witness, a 32-year-old woman, had parked her car at the location and left the complainant and the 9-year-old male suspect alone in her car while she went shopping.

Initial reports are that the suspect found a gun in the vehicle and shot the complaint. The investigation is ongoing. ‘
