10-year-old boy suffers serious leg injury when his ‘Segway’ scooter collides with Ford Transit truck

A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured after his ‘Segway-esque’ scooter collided with a truck on Easter Sunday.

The schoolboy was riding his seated scooter when he was hit by a Ford Transit truck in Wythenshawe, south Manchester, yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly before 3.10 pm and the boy – who was not named – was taken to hospital with a ‘very serious’ leg injury.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, Greater Manchester police confirmed.

Officers have called on anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

Constable Jody Oakley, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘This collision has resulted in a young boy suffering a very serious leg injury and our thoughts are with him as he recovers in the hospital.

“If you were in the area at the time of this incident, have dashcam or camera images, or saw the vehicles prior to the collision, please contact us.”

After the crash, the road was closed and several police vehicles were stationed on the spot.

Traffic was diverted from the area for hours.
