- Jeff Fenech attacks rival coach
- The pairs had to be separated in the ring
- The two coaches have ongoing beef
Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech was involved in a heated exchange after crossing the ring to abuse rival trainer Ben Savva on the undercard of the Tszyu-Mendoza fight.
After a week of bickering between the coaches, the two men almost came to blows after the second fight of the afternoon.
Fenech fighter Hass Hamdan scored a decisive victory over Savva fighter Danvers Cuschieri, getting the nod on all three scorecards 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75.
Then, Fenech was seen yelling at his rival before the Hall of Fame boxer charged across the ring to come face to face with Savva.
“We were humbled, congratulated them and Jeff just started, like he did for no apparent reason,” Savva told Fox Sports Australia afterwards.

“He makes fun of me like he always does.
“Then he started making weird gestures with his fingers, so I talked back to him and he got aggressive.”
“He’s just an idiot.”
“He’s an absolute fool and Australian boxing knows it.
“The only reason he hates me is because I’m the only person saying what every other boxing coach in Australia thinks.
“This guy has been attacking me for two years for no reason.
“A lot of homophobic stuff which in 2023 seems very prevalent, but Jeff Fenech is above the law, as I said before.
“He got through it without any problem.

Savva called Fenech a ‘fucking idiot’ after Sunday’s heated confrontation

Fortunately, authorities were on hand to intervene and separate the two coaches.
“He told everyone I was like… trainer, s… boxer, nobody.”
The two have had issues since Fenech took offense to Savva’s criticism of his handling of young fighter Brock Jarvis a few years ago.
“It reminds me of the fact that I made a comment once that Brock Jarvis needed to be re-evaluated after being dropped by the Mexican,” Savva explained.
“I said Brock Jarvis probably needs to re-evaluate and refine a few things before he takes his place again.
“Just because I saw he was a little vulnerable and it turned out I was right.
“Since Jeff hates me, attacks me, I don’t know why. He keeps embarrassing himself, keeps making himself look like an idiot over and over again.
