Boxer, I’m A Celeb star Harry Garside arrested over alleged domestic violence incident Ashley Ruscoe

Date:

Olympic boxing medalist Harry Garside has been arrested on domestic violence charges on his return to Australia after filming the reality TV series I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

Garside was taken into custody at Sydney International Airport after police launched an investigation into reports of an incident involving a 32-year-old woman, a NSW police spokeswoman told AAP on Tuesday.

“He has been taken to Mascot Police Station where he is assisting police with the investigation,” the spokeswoman said.

The champion men’s lightweight boxer won bronze for Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has won seven Australian national boxing championships.

Garside won the gold medal in the men’s 52 kg boxing final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He has now been arrested on domestic violence charges

Garside recently appeared on the ninth season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, where he finished runner-up to former champion netballer Liz Ellis.

The final was broadcast on Sunday evening. Host Julia Morris said the result was down to the wire.

“We can say that the result was very close,” she said.

News Corp has reported that Garside was met by police detectives upon his arrival at Sydney Airport on Monday after his flight from Johannesburg.

Garside was traveling with his father, Shaun, who was allowed through customs to collect his bags.

Garside, on the other hand, was escorted to a waiting car by two NSW Police detectives and two Australian Federal Police officers.

The 25-year-old athlete was then taken to a nearby police station where he was interviewed about an alleged incident that happened in March with his ex-girlfriend, Ash Ruscoe.

Ruscoe, a wellness instructor and personal trainer, competed on another Ten reality show, The Amazing Race Australia, with former partner Sidney Pierucci.

The alleged altercation took place at Ruscoe’s Bondi apartment complex and required police intervention.

Garside recently shared a photo of himself and his father on Instagram taken in business class on a Qantas flight.

He captioned the post, “Had to upgrade my best friend to do business with me. What an experience it has been. Something I will never forget, friendships that will last a lifetime.’

Garside won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics in the men’s lightweight event.

He participated in I’m A Celebrity for his chosen charity, Reach Youth Organization.

During his time in South Africa, he said he would use his jungle experience to figure out what to do with his career in the future.

“First, stay professional (in boxing) and turn away from my heart, but possibly fix my family for life with money,” he said.

“Option two, try to go to the Olympics next year, try to win a gold medal and honor myself, honor my country, honor my heart and honor my pride – but have no money.”

“Or option three, quit boxing altogether and focus my energy on something else.

“I am now on a lottery ticket, where I could realistically cash in on my boxing career. There is great potential that I could make a lot of money. So of course there is that pressure’, he admits.

“I want to start my family and I want to buy a house for my father and mother. And I want my kids to eat well. Of course I want that.’

‘But is it at the expense of (my) happiness? That’s the dilemma.’

At the time, Garside said he was “single” after divorcing Ruscoe.
