A six-year-old girl was so brutally attacked by a dog that she had to be airlifted to a major regional hospital for facial reconstruction and dozens of stitches.
The young woman was attacked at a home in the central Queensland coastal town of Bowen on Friday night, according to a relative.
She was taken by ambulance to Bowen Hospital in stable condition.
Her injuries were so severe she had to be airlifted to Townsville University Hospital four hours later for major facial reconstruction, including 116 stitches.

According to Townsville Hospital and Services, she remains in a stable condition.
The dog that attacked the girl is known to have been euthanized.
