Cashing in: GSK boss Emma Walmsley
GSK boss Emma Walmsley received almost £13m last year, taking her total income since taking the job to more than £55m.
The pharmaceutical giant gave him £12.7m in 2023, including a basic salary of £1.3m, more than £300,000 in benefits and pension contributions and £11.1m in bonuses.
That was the biggest paycheck she has received since taking over in 2017. In total, Walmsley, 54, has received £55.3m since becoming chief executive.
Its profits remain well below those of Pascal Soriot, chief executive of rival AstraZeneca. He was paid £16.9m last year and has received a total of £135m since he got the job in 2012.
GSK’s revenue rose to £30.3bn last year, while profits rose almost 8% to £6.1bn. Shares are up nearly 15 percent this year, but are virtually unchanged since Walmsley took over.
Pay is again a hot topic in the City and David Schwimmer, head of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), said this week that UK companies must offer their bosses more to compete with US companies. .
