Bordeaux winger Alberth Elis has been placed in an induced coma, according to reports in France, following a clash of heads in a Ligue 2 clash.
The Honduran international was playing for Bordeaux in the league match when the horrific collision occurred, just 34 seconds into the match against Guingamp.
Elis collided with Guingamp defender Donatien Gomis, and several players from both sides rushed to the scene in obvious distress.
A pause of around eight minutes followed while the player received treatment on the field before being rushed to hospital, leaving the field to a loud applause.
Bordeaux issued a statement after the incident saying: ‘Alberth Elis went to the hospital to undergo medical tests. We wish him a speedy recovery.’

Reports claim that the player’s family is by his side in hospital following the latest events.
“I spoke to the doctor, we can’t say anything about it yet,” Bordeaux coach Alberto Riera said after the game.
‘He is currently in the hospital. The victory goes to Alberth Elis. The victory is well deserved.”
Teammate Gaetan Weissbeck added: “We obviously dedicate this victory to him. This is where we realize that things can go very fast in life.
‘We will give you great support. We’re really going to be with him wholeheartedly, checking on him.
“We have already heard from him and now we hope that he improves and recovers as quickly as possible.”
Weissbeck then posted his own Instagram tribute to Elis, holding up the Honduran’s jersey and captioning it: “This victory is for you.” We are with you.’

He joined the club permanently after an initial loan from Portuguese team Boavista in 2021, and has played 60 times since.
