Bookies predict the European Super League will NOT take place before 2023, Bayern Munich and PSG WILL join the breakout and English clubs will not be kicked out of UEFA competitions
- Twelve European clubs announced plans to establish a European Super League
- The Big Six teams in England all signed up for the annual breakaway tournament
- Bookmakers have predicted that the tournament will not continue until 2023
- Odds say Bayern Munich and PSG are likely to join the league if it happens
Bookmakers predict that the European Super League will not take place before 2023, but Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain will eventually join as it takes shape.
Twelve European clubs shocked the football world on Sunday evening by announcing their plans to participate in an escape competition that would take them away from UEFA competitions such as the Champions League.
All so-called ‘Big Six’ English teams – including Manchester United and Liverpool – entered the competition, along with the three biggest teams from Spain and Italy.
Bookmakers don’t believe the controversial European Super League will take place before 2023
The ‘Big Six’ English teams joined six others on Sunday and formed an escape tournament
Germany’s Bayern and Borussia Dortmund confirmed on Monday that they would not sign up for the Super League in view of the reform of the current Champions League line-up, while PSG also abstained.
But Betfair has rated Bayern at 1/10 to ultimately meet their demands, with PSG being twice as likely to change their mind if the Super League continues.
The German giants are on 5/1 to stick to their original choice of staying away, with the Paris side further back on 8/1 to do the same.
Bayern Munich has not joined, but bookies claim they will change their mind if it goes ahead
The bookies also claim France’s PSG will also join the league if it goes ahead as planned
There is an early negativity that the breakaway league will kick off within the next two years with a 1/5 chance that the Super League will not start before 2023.
Meanwhile, the six English clubs – Manchester City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham – are rated at 5/6 for not playing any European Super League game before 2025.
The Football Association, UEFA, FIFA and the Premier League have all publicly disapproved of the idea of the Super League, claiming legal action will be taken against those teams if the plans go through.
The bookies also consider it very unlikely that the group of English clubs will be driven out of the top of England, with all teams remaining in the Premier League at a value of 1/10 through 2023.
Odds also claim that UEFA will not kick English clubs out of European competitions
Meanwhile, the two Manchester clubs, who are on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League, are likely to be kicked out of Europe’s premier club competition at 13/5.
UEFA has already threatened to expel any team that has signed up for the European Super League from European competitions, and deny players of those teams from playing in international football.
For the tournament, for which Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan have also signed up, 15 teams will automatically qualify for the tournament each season with five additional qualifying places up for grabs.
Teams are split into two groups of ten, with the top three teams from each group qualifying for the quarter-finals – with playoffs deciding if the other two teams reach the knockout rounds.
