Industry insiders have claimed popular Channel Seven star Sonia Kruger’s future with the network could be up in the air.
Even though the 59-year-old TV favorite was once one of Seven’s most in-demand stars, rumors are circulating that may no longer be the case following changes at the network.
One change is that her previous presenting job on Big Brother has disappeared, and the reality show will move to Network Ten in 2025 with a rebooted format and a new presenter in Mel Trancia.
Another big change for Sonia, who also presents The Voice and Dancing With The Stars on Seven, was her husband Craig McPherson vacating his role as head of news and current affairs at SevenWest Media in April.
A Seven spokesperson denied the Daily TelegraphClaims that these developments had caused the star to fall out of favor at the network.
‘You’re making things up. This is total fiction and completely wrong. “Publishing this rumor would be deliberately misleading,” the spokesperson said.
Despite this, the publication claimed that a “senior source” at Seven said Sonia was “vulnerable” citing her $1.3 million contract.
“Now that Big Brother is gone, he’ll probably do less,” the anonymous source told the outlet.
Claims have emerged that despite Sonia once being one of Seven’s most in-demand stars, rumors are circulating that this may no longer be the case following changes at the network.
And the Gold Logie winner’s representatives poured more water on the rumor and told the publication that Sonia was “happy” at the network.
“Sonia has a long-term contract with Seven, has not taken any pay cuts and is very happy with the network.”
The claims come after unconfirmed reports emerged earlier this month that Sonia had re-signed with the network.
A TV insider has revealed that Seven will announce its new network gig Upfronts for 2025 in the coming months.
Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, a source said the new role will involve reporting and “location” work.
One change is that her previous presenting gig on Big Brother has disappeared, and the reality show will move to Network Ten in 2025 with a rebooted format and a new presenter in Mel Trancia.
Another big change for Sonia, who also presents The Voice and Dancing With The Stars on Seven, was her husband Craig McPherson vacating his role as head of news and current affairs at SevenWest Media in April. Craig is pictured with the couple’s daughter, Maggie.
“Sonia is at her best when she can improvise,” they said, and continued:
“Giving her a microphone and getting real people to open up is a real skill set that she can effortlessly develop, so I think it’s a waste to not reintroduce her in that kind of capacity.” I think Sonia wants more and rightly so.
Meanwhile, a second source told the publication that Sonia’s new job at Seven would be “meatier” than her current presenting roles on The Voice and Dancing with the Stars.
Sonia joined Seven in 2020 on a three-year deal and the source indicated her new role will give the beloved star the chance to showcase her journalistic skills.
They even suggested they could use Sonia to revive a current affairs format like Today Tonight, a former rival to Nine’s A Current Affair, which aired on Seven between 1995 and 2019.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Seven for comment.
“Now that Big Brother is gone, he will probably do less,” the anonymous source told the Daily Telegraph.
