Michael Slater allegedly broke into an ex-partner’s home after sending her disturbing text messages, hitting her, kicking her and threatening to kill her, court documents revealed.

He collapsed at Maroochydore Magistrates Court when he was refused bail for the offenses on Tuesday.

He faces 19 charges relating to alleged crimes carried out on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on various dates between December 5, 2023 and April 12 this year.

The 54-year-old has spent the last few days in the Maroochydore Police guardhouse since his arrest at the weekend.

Some of the alleged violent acts were captured on CCTV cameras at the woman’s property, including her alleged repeated verbal abuse – shouting obscenities and abuse before entering the house.

Mr Slater, dressed in a green prison uniform, put his hands on his head when he learned that his bail offer had been rejected.

He then collapsed as Correctional Services staff led him back to the cells.

Charges include domestic violence offences, unlawful harassment or intimidation, intentionally breaking into a dwelling during the night, common assault, assault causing bodily harm and suffocation or suffocation.

He was also charged with breaching bail and 10 counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

Police confirmed they arrested a 54-year-old Noosa Heads man at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday following alleged incidents of domestic violence involving a woman he had a brief relationship with.

Now documents have revealed the shocking extent of the allegations against the former Test batsman.

Police will allege Slater (pictured outside a Sydney police station in 2021) sent more than 300 text messages to an ex-partner while threatening suicide and calling her horrific insults.

He faces harassment charges after being accused of bombarding the woman with around 300 text messages from December last year to April 13.

Slater’s messages allegedly saw him call her ‘escort’, ‘shit’ and ‘shit’ while threatening suicide in some of the text messages.

‘Fuck you, you’re a fraud, I’m going to hang my skull in front of your house. How does that damn king feel to you? You, damned king, killed me,’ he is accused of writing.

Police allege Slater punched the woman in the face while she was sitting on the sofa at his Noosa address after she came to check on his welfare when he texted her saying: “I fell and I think I broke a rib”, according to news corporation.

The blow caused her eye to swell before he allegedly kicked her in the leg, causing her to fall, before raising a bottle of vodka above her head and saying: “I’ll kill you.”

When the woman tried to get away from him, Slater allegedly grabbed her by the neck and slammed her into a refrigerator.

He is also accused of lifting her by the neck until she could not breathe after pushing her into a sink and washing machine.

Slater is alleged to have called the woman on April 12 of this year to tell her he was in a mental health facility, then smashed a window in her home and entered the address after repeatedly saying ‘fuck you’ and ‘ where is your daughter?’

The former star grabbed her arm “firmly” before police took him to hospital to treat an injury he suffered when breaking the window.

Legal Aid lawyer Michael Robinson told the court on Tuesday his client planned to reside in a rehabilitation center in Sydney if he was released.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brendan Newman said court orders, previous court rulings and the granting of bail had not deterred Mr Slater.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told Mr Slater denied any allegations of violence against the complainant.

The court was told part of Mr Slater’s alleged offending involved “serious” acts of violence against the complainant, some of which was captured on CCTV at the home.

Sergeant Newman said Mr Slater can allegedly be heard on the tape repeatedly shouting “fuck you” and verbally abusing the complainant, before smashing a window.

The victim was then allegedly assaulted in the house by Mr Slater, he said.

“She is repeatedly begging him to stop, she is naked, cowering in fear, clearly scared for her safety,” Sgt Newman told the court.

“We say the strength of the evidence is good.”

Ultimately, Magistrate Raelene Ellis refused bail.

“Some of these crimes were committed within 24 hours of the date of the first court appearance and during other hours,” he said.

After making his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour, Slater played 74 Tests for Australia, amassing 5,312 runs at an average of 42.83 with 14 centuries.

He also played 42 one-day internationals.

Slater retired from cricket in 2004 and embarked on a successful career as a television commentator.
