Donald Trump’s supporter base is calling for him to annex Australia as the incoming US president makes wild claims about a land grab scheme.

“I don’t want to give Trump any more ideas, but these guys don’t have guns anymore,” conservative journalist Chadwick Moore said in a social media post on Wednesday, alongside a map of Australia.

It comes after Trump suggested he could use “economic force” to make Canada the 51st US state and announced a plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

He also refused to rule out the use of military force or economic coercion to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal.

Moore’s post on Wednesday received thousands of ironic but supportive comments.

‘Make Australia Great Again’. It works for me!’ said one.

“Are you saying you would take it by force?” It’s not necessary, we would sign up,” said another.

“As an Australian please take us, we need all the help we can get,” said a third.

“We’ll give them Victoria and New Zealand,” another Australian joked.

Conservative commentator Prue MacSween told Daily Mail Australia she could understand where the pro-Trump sentiment was coming from.

“While we all know it’s probably just a cute, whimsical suggestion, I can understand why a lot of people would say we need a strong leader,” he said.

‘We have a weak and weak leader in Albanese and we seem to be floundering. The country is in a shocking economic situation.

‘We have a shortage of good leaders, our politicians have no vision, they are not brave and they are terrified of offending minority groups.

‘We need warriors. “People, and maybe I’m one of them, can see that Trump could be a lifeline.”

Trump has long expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark rich in resources and a key corridor for naval operations between the Arctic and the North Atlantic.

By acquiring Greenland, a former US ally and founding member of NATO, Trump would ensure continued access to the Pituffik Space Base, even though there is currently no threat to stop access.

“We need Greenland for national security reasons,” he said at the weekend after refusing to rule out a military invasion.

Global warming is causing the region’s ice to retreat, opening sea routes and access to incredible wealth, turning the region into a new geopolitical and economic asset, which the United States, Russia, China and others want to enter.

Their land grab plans have drawn the ire of world leaders, including Canadian President Justin Trudeau, who insisted there was not even the slightest chance of Canada joining the United States.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also responded to Trump’s plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico, with the joking suggestion that the United States should be called “Mexico-America.”

Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on January 20.
