A “bastard” farmer who repeatedly sexually abused the 14-year-old daughter of his good friends and told her that their “little secret” would not spend a day in prison.

Ross Edgar Ewing, the former president of North Otago Federated Farmers, was sentenced on Wednesday to nine months in house arrest in the Oamaru district of New Zealand’s South Island.

The 71-year-old retired farmer – who abused his victim between 2002 and 2004 – pleaded guilty to doing an indecent act with a girl between 12 and 16 years old.

The girl was 14 years old when Ewing started sexually molesting her on a rural estate in North Otago New Zealand Herald reported.

Ewing’s “sick, distorted desire to molest a young teenage girl” was revealed in a victim impact statement that the girl’s aunt read to the judge.

The once ‘self-assured girl’ said she was going from a clear view of life to struggling to get out of bed.

“Because of you, I would cry in the privacy of my bedroom … and pray that you would stop doing these things to me,” she said.

“The hatred and anger I have for you is overwhelming.”

The statement said the abuse left the victim with trust issues.

Her mother said that Ewing was a “flaming bastard” who “betrayed” the family.

“I thought she was safe, but in fact I sent her directly to the lion’s den,” she said in her statement.

Ewing asked the victim to help on his farm, where he would give gifts and compliments, the police revealed a summary of the facts.

The farmer started to hug her and kiss her on the cheek before he started kissing her, touching her breasts and genitals. He then did an indecent act on her.

In a case of abuse, Ewing put the girl’s hand on his crotch while sitting next to her father in a farm vehicle driven by the suspect.

Ewing advised the girl that she shouldn’t tell her friends about him because they could do it wrong.

He also threatened that they were both in “so many problems” as others found out and told the girl that the abuse was “little secret.”

Ewing was also instructed to give the victim emotional compensation of $ 10,000.
