The young man had no ID when his body was found.
Police are asking for the public’s help after a number of inquiries failed to identify him.
“Due to the inaccessible area the man was in, police believe he fell into the water at a different location,” Tasmania police said.
Police say the man appeared to be “Sri Lankan or similar.”
“He is of slight build and believed to be between 18 and 25 years old,” Tasmania police said.
“He wore black sneakers with white soles, black jeans, a dark green T-shirt with a pink and blue rodeo decal on the front, and a black puffer jacket.”
Police are conducting a medical examination to determine the man’s cause of death.
However, it has been confirmed at this stage that there is nothing to indicate that the man died suspicious circumstances.
Anyone with information that could help identify the man is asked to call police on 131 444.
