Texas firefighter, Elijah Snow, was found dead near Cancun, Mexico,

Mexican authorities are investigating how a Texas firefighter died while on vacation in Cancun, but the image they are creating is one of confusion.

Elijah Snow, of Texas, passed away last Monday. Police in Mexico in the municipality of Benito Juárez are said to have opened an ‘investigation folder’ in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.

“The circumstances under which the events occurred are under investigation,” said a social media post from the office of the State Attorney General for Quintana Roo, Fiscalía General Quintana Roo.

Snow’s body was “in a bathroom window” at a hotel, but it wasn’t the resort Snow had stayed at, but about half an hour’s drive, or 10 miles, from Cancun’s beach hotels.

So far, Snow’s cause of death has not been released, but relatives believe he may have been murdered following a possible kidnapping.

To add to the confusion, Snow’s wife, Jamie Snow, was told that her husband had indeed died after falling over a wall while they were staying at the Cancun resort where they were staying, but the family does not believe the statement.

A local lawyer managed to find crime scene photos that suggest Snow was in fact beaten to death, according to KTVT.

The couple had celebrated their 10-year anniversary, but Snow was found dead after being away for just one night. The name of the resort has not been released by authorities so far.

The pair are said to have enjoyed a few drinks at the hotel bar before deciding to go back to their room, after which Snow stopped and went back to the bar, while his wife went to their room to sleep.

Jamie Snow woke up around 4am and went looking for her husband when he hadn’t returned, only to be told he had been found dead after having “fallen between the walls of the neighboring resort”.

Elijah Snow’s father-in-law, Randy Elledge, said it appeared Snow had been beaten and possibly suffocated.

“You’re supposed to be safe there,” Elledge said. “You’re at your resort, all-inclusive, and don’t plan to leave, so you’re safe. And you’re not safe there.’

Snow was a firefighter in Arlington, Texas, and had worked for the fire service for eight years.
