The body of the 35-year-old man was found in the holiday resort of Mojácar, north of Almería.

The alarm was raised at around 11pm last night after the terrible discovery.

It was found near Vantanicas Beach, a wide sandy beach described as “beautiful” by many visitors on sites such as Tripadvisor.

Blood was reportedly found on the wall and floor of the unidentified location where the body was discovered.

The body of the Briton, whose name has not been released, is believed to have remained undiscovered for several hours.

Police sources said this morning that “all lines of enquiry” were being investigated, including the possibility that the man’s death was accidental.

One said: ‘The autopsy will be key here.

‘All lines of investigation remain open and investigators are not making any assumptions at this stage.’

Civil Guard investigators have appeared before a duty court in the nearby town of Vera, which has opened an open investigation.
