A body has been found during the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater, who vanished on the Spanish island of Tenerife almost a month ago.

The 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had not been heard from since the morning of June 17.

Jay had attended the final night of the three-day NRG music festival in Playa de Las Americas before returning to a £40-a-night Airbnb in the remote village of Masca, northwest of Tenerife, with two older British men he met there.

While attempting to walk back to his accommodation on the southern part of the island, Jay called a friend to say he was lost, severely dehydrated and had only one percent battery left on his phone.

Her disappearance sparked a major search and rescue mission, with Spanish police scouring the mountainous landscape around the village of Masca, where she had spent the night before she vanished.

However, the official search was called off after just 12 days, prompting a backlash from his desperate family, who claimed they had been “left in the dark”.

Today, a Civil Guard spokesman said: ‘After 29 days of constant searching, the young man’s body has been found in the Masca area.

‘The discovery was made possible thanks to the tireless and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard over the last 29 days.

‘Everything points to the body being that of the young British man who disappeared on June 17, pending full identification.

‘The first investigations indicate that he suffered an accident/fall in the area where he was found.’

This is a breaking news History. More to come later.
