The world’s oldest dog, having lived more than double his life expectancy at the ripe age of 31, Bobi continues to love life as he lives out his days on a farm in Portugal.
Pictures of the world-famous canine have shown that he is still enjoying the sweet life with his owner, Leonal Costa, who is only seven years older than his pooch.
Bobi, who was born on May 11, 1992, has lived all his life with the Costa family, in the rural town of Conqueiros, in Leiria, in central Portugal.
He is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of livestock guardian dog that has an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
Mr. Costa attributes Bobi’s astonishing longevity to the “calm and peaceful environment” in which he lives, his diet of human food, and his freedom, as Bobi has never been chained or tied up.

Owner Leonel Costa and dog Bobi, 31, pose with Guinness World Record certificates in Leiria, Portugal this week.

Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of livestock guardian dog with an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
Bobi loves to eat and almost always has the same food as her owners, but I’m sure they soak it in water first to remove the seasonings.
His good health in old age also appears to be in the genes, as Costa said Bobi’s mother, Gira, lived to be 18, and another of his dogs, Chicote, lived to be 22.
As if reaching the age of 31 wasn’t enough, Bobi miraculously also avoided being put down as a cub.
She was born with three siblings in a family from Portugal, but they already had a lot of animals and they had to euthanize the puppies.
Bobi escaped, Costa said, and his family held him.
“From being convicted at birth to now being the oldest verified dog in history, Bobi’s story is miraculous,” Guinness World Records said in naming Bobi the oldest dog ever recorded in February.

The dog celebrated his birthday in May with a ‘very traditional’ Portuguese party at the family farm.

Mr. Costa attributes Bobi’s amazing longevity to the “calm and peaceful environment” in which he lives, his diet of human food, and his freedom.
Seeing Bobi’s long life recognized by becoming a Guinness World Records title holder “is an immense joy,” Costa said.
Costa describes him as “one of a kind” and, incredibly, said he still hopes Bobi will father puppies, as he is the last of a long generation of animals.
Mr Costa said: “Bobi has been a warrior for all these years, only he knows how he has been holding up, it must not be easy because the average lifespan of a dog is not that high and if he spoke alone he could explain this success.”
We are very happy and grateful to life for allowing us, after 30 years, to have Bobi in our daily lives.

Bobi appears in 1999 at the family farm where he enjoys playing with the cats.
The dog celebrated his birthday in May with a “very traditional” Portuguese party at the family farm, attended by dozens of friends and fans from around the world.
Despite his age, the calm and sociable dog is still healthy enough to play with the family’s four cats.

Bobi only had one health issue in 2018, but he pulled through.

Bobi sleeps well at night and enjoys a good rest after meals, as well as relaxing by the fireplace on especially cold days. She also loves to walk through the cultivated fields and among the pine trees.

He also has some age-related vision and gait problems.
In 1992, Bobi registered with the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria. The organization confirmed Bobi’s date of birth.
Bobi’s age has been verified by SIAC, a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government and managed by the National Union of Veterinarians.
The previous holder of the oldest living dog title was Spike, who achieved the record at 23 years and 7 days, as verified in Camden, Ohio on December 7, 2022.
The title of oldest dog in history was previously held by Bluey, an Australian shepherd dog who lived to be 29 years and 5 months before being put to sleep in November 1939.
