Bob Odenkirk’s turn to action movies seems to be paying off after his new thriller Nobody was the top-grossing film on the weekend box office.

The 58-year-old comedian’s $ 6.7 million film in its first three days in theaters, with Disney’s Raya And The Last Dragon in second place, Deadline reported.

It’s a hit! Bob Odenkirk, 58, took off from his usual comedy to direct the action movie Nobody, which topped the weekend box office with $ 6.7 million gross, according to Deadline.

Odenkirk is best known for his HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show and its comic relief on AMC’s Breaking Bad, but he took a darker approach to the spin-off series Better Call Saul.

In recent years, he has expanded his offering to include roles in Steven Spielberg’s The Post (2017) and 2019’s Little Women, although Nobody is her first time directing an action movie.

The decision to save Nobody for a theatrical release, rather than a home PVOD release, seems to be paying off based on the box office success.

Odenkirk stars as a man living a dull life who gets in trouble with Russian gangsters after losing his temper and beating up some of their cronies while trying to hijack a bus he is driving on.

Several chains, including the upscale Arclight theaters, are still not open, but LA was the top-grossing US market for the second week in a row.
