Several Hollywood stars took to social media to pay tribute to comedian Bob Newhart after his death was announced at age 94 on Thursday.
Newhart’s publicist, Jerry Digney, confirmed the actor’s death in Los Angeles on Thursday after suffering a brief series of illnesses.
Alec Baldwin posted a picture of the late star and wrote: “Au revoir to the great Bob Newhart…”
Star Wars star Mark Hamill said: “From his groundbreaking monologue to his two classic comedies, he’s kept us laughing out loud for a lifetime. He’s truly one of a kind. Thank you Bob Newhart! #RIP.”
Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson said, “What a life lived” with the hashtag #goat. Referring to Newhart’s show, she said, “Daryl, Daryl, Daryl was one of my aha moments as a kid.”

Actress Kaley Cuoco, who welcomed Newhart on The Big Bang Theory, took to Instagram Stories to pay tribute to the late comedy legend.
Cuoco said: “It was a dream to witness the genius that was Bob Newhart. He was elegant, kind, generous and absolutely hilarious. In every take, on every occasion. An icon forever.”
Cuoco also shared a photo of the cast, writing, “I’ll never forget you Bob! Thank you for making our dreams come true!”
Director Judd Apatow said: ‘Bob Newhart was the kindest, funniest man.
“He asked me to make a documentary about his friendship with Don Rickles. I was very lucky to be able to spend that time with my hero. His brilliant humor and kind spirit made everyone he met very happy.”
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis said in an Instagram post: “There will be laughter everywhere people go when they leave us. God he was so funny! Bob Newhart. We will miss you!”
Actor and politician Al Franken called Newhart “a giant, a genius and a great guy.”
