Three-time X-Games medalist Pat Casey died Tuesday in a motorcycle accident, aged just 29.

The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. at Slayground Motocross Park in Ramona, Calif., after he lost control and was later ejected from his motorcycle. according to CBS 8.

He was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics trying to save his life for 55 minutes, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.

Investigations into the death are still ongoing. The 29-year-old was a prominent figure in the BMX world, winning gold at the 2021 X-Games.

Casey is survived by his wife, Chase, and two young children, Reid and Taytum.

X-Games posted a photo of Casey and paid a touching tribute to their Instagram account on Wednesday.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pat Casey and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, parents and siblings,” the statement read.

“A true legend in the action sports community, Pat will always be a member of the X Games family and an inspiration to the lives of all those he touched.”

The motocross world has expressed sadness over Casey’s passing, including six-time X-Games gold medalist Kyle Baldock.

“I can’t believe I’m writing this, today we lost an icon!” Pat, thank you for blessing us all with your kind and loving personality,’ he wrote on Instagram.

“You are the toughest person I have ever met, we have been friends since the ASA days about 10 years ago and you have always inspired me to go harder. You are going to us so much miss everyone that it doesn’t seem real.

‘Your [sic] hard as they come bro. I love you bro and my thoughts are with all your family and friends. Keep calm Pat.’
