BMW has issued another recall of more than 290,000 vehicles in North America this month due to a detached interior cargo rail.
The vehicles were recalled after a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that faulty bolts could cause the cargo rail to fall off in a rear-end crash.
Officials said the detachment could also increase the risk of injury.
The recall applies to the following 2018-2023 BMW vehicles: X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i and X3 M.
All BMW dealers will replace the defective bolts free of charge and notification letters will be sent to the owner next month.
BMW issued another recall this month of more than 290,000 vehicles in North America due to a detached interior cargo rail.
BMW first learned of this issue in August 2022 after an “extreme rear-end crash” involving a 2022 BMW X3, according to FOX 13.
Subsequently, in March 2024, the company received the legal documents and carried out an inspection of the vehicle.
It is unclear whether the driver and potential passengers were injured or whether anyone involved received a settlement.
The four vehicles included in the latest recall are all of the X3 model.
However, they are different from each other even though they are all SUVs.
Dealers cannot sell existing 2023 X models with factory cargo rails until the new hardware arrives, according to Car Blog.
No 2024 BMW vehicles are affected by this or any other recalls that occurred this month.

BMW recalled nearly 400,000 vehicles earlier this month over faulty air bag inflators that could explode.
Unlike BMW’s last recall in July, the faulty airbag issue only applied to vehicles in the U.S.
Sedans that were part of the recall recently had their original steering wheels replaced with an M-sport steering wheel.
The company also announced a recall of 44,000 SUVs in Canada earlier this month due to faulty airbag inflators.
Inflator explosions can cause sharp metal fragments to strike the driver or other passengers and could result in injury or death, according to NHTSA.
