Burns previously hosted Blue’s Clues from 1996 to 2002, until he passed the torch to Patton, who played his younger brother Joe.

“Welcome to the Thanksgiving Day Parade!” Dela Cruz said in a video shared on the network’s Twitter page on Thursday, before Burns greeted fans with a friendly “Hey, everyone!” while Patton smiled at the camera.

The preschool groomed show followed Steve (a human) who was tasked with finding three clues his animated puppy Blue had left behind to solve a particular problem.

Blue’s Clues premiered on Nick Jr. in 1996 and the then 23-year-old Burns served as a presenter for six years.

After his departure, he was replaced by his ‘brother’ Joe on the show, actor Donovan Patton who continued to host until production closed in 2006.

In 2019 it was rebooted under the name Blue’s Clues & You! with new starring Josh played by Joshua Dela Cruz.

The program has been called “one of the most successful, critically acclaimed and groundbreaking preschool television series of all time.”

Steve first spoke about his abrupt departure from the show in September.

“Remember when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff? And one day I was like, “Oh hey, guess what? Big news. I’m leaving!”…can we just talk about that?’ he said.

Burns went on to say, “I realize that was rather abrupt. I just got up and went to college,” calling the exit “really challenging.”

He then turned to his now mature audience: “I mean, we started with clues and now it’s what? Student loans, jobs and families. And some things were pretty hard, you know?

“I just wanted to tell you that I really couldn’t have done any of this without your help. In fact, all the help you helped me with when we were younger still helps me.’

Burns added warmly, “I just wanted to say that after all these years I’ve never forgotten you… ever. And I’m super happy we’re still friends.’

Prior to his statement on camera, his departure had been surrounded by murky rumours, with hoaxes claiming he had died of a heroin overdose or had been killed in a car accident, with other rumors that he was actually a porn star.

Burns talked about the shady rumors in conversation with DailyMail.com in 2017 and shared that his mother called him crying with concern.

It even prompted him to have his Instagram cover @steveburnsalive with his bio by simply reading “alive.”

“It’s uncomfortable. It’s not pleasant. It’s bizarre and surreal. I think Blue’s Clues and that rumor may have started when the Internet was really becoming a place where people searched for news,” Steve said, trying to contextualize.

“So I think that made it a little extra sneaky. But other than that, I couldn’t tell you where it started or why it started or why it continues. I really couldn’t.’

He said he had simply decided to leave Blue’s Clues to go back to his career as a voiceover artist, and did not want to continue working on screen – adding that he was “burnt out” from doing the show for seven years.

“Everyone wants a dramatic response and there isn’t. I wish I had a cool answer to this, but I just did it for seven years and it seemed like it was time to go. It just seemed like the right time,” Steve continued.

He had previously said, “I knew I wouldn’t be doing kids’ TV all my life, mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a kids’ show, and it happened—quickly.”

Burns later embarked on a music career, working with Flaming Lips producer David Fridmann and drummer Steve Drozd on an alternative rock album called Songs for Dustmites in the early 2000s.
