Ukraine has claimed to have attacked two other large Russian warships and destroyed its Black Sea Fleet communications center in a deadly overnight attack.
The landing ships Yamal and Azov, each valued at £170 million, were reportedly hit in the overnight attack while in the Black Sea naval port of Sevastopol.
British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles are believed to have been launched, targeting key infrastructure in the heaviest bombardment of the Crimean city to date.
The Ukrainian high command has not confirmed whether this was with missiles or drones, but other attacks on ships this year have been with deadly kamikaze marine drones.
Ukrainian Telegram channel Pravda Gerashchenko announced: “In occupied Sevastopol, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully attacked the large landing ships Yamal and Azov, the communications center and several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Sea Fleet. Black”.

Yamal-class landing ships to Ropucha would have a normal crew of 98
It was previously claimed that Ukraine had attacked the main communications center of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in a Storm Shadow attack.
There was no immediate reaction from Russia to claims by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ StratCom that the two warships had been damaged or destroyed.
If confirmed, it will be a devastating blow to Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.

Both ships are 369 feet long and were built in Gdansk, Poland, during the Soviet era, but have since been modernized.
The Yamal and Azov, two Ropucha-class landing ships, are understood to have a normal crew of 98 and 87, respectively.
The attack comes days after Admiral Alexander Moiseev, 61, was named commander-in-chief of the Russian navy after the dictator abruptly fired previous admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, who had held the position for five years, for the sinking of a previous battleship in Ukraine.

Images of last night’s bombing. Russia has lost more than a quarter of its fleet (about 21 ships) in the war, including the anticipated sinking in 2022 of the flagship Moskva in a Neptune missile attack by Ukraine.
Earlier this month, the £51 million Sergey Kotov patrol vessel, one of Putin’s newest naval vessels, was sunk by a flock of MAGURA V5 unmanned attack drones.
Last month the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov, worth £170 million, was also destroyed.

The Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol was also attacked with missiles last year.
Putin also fired Admiral Viktor Sokolov, 61, commander-in-chief of the Black Sea Fleet, last month following the loss of the warship Caesar Kunikov.
Putin has lost a staggering 17 warships since the start of the 25-month war with Ukraine, and six since the end of December last year.
