This week, it was Emma and Mark’s turn to have dinner and wine.
Read on to find out what happened…
Emma, 44

Current role
Waiter and cleaner.
I would like to know
A kind, loyal, honest man… and tall, dark and handsome!
Dating someone from the past?
I was divorced 13 years ago, I was with the father of my youngest son for six years. We separated four years ago and I have been mostly single since then.
Emma, who works as a waitress and cleaner, is divorced and has four children aged 18, 15, 13 and eight.
Pre-date jitters?
Yes, I was a little scared of what Mark would be like. I’d never been on a blind date before.
First impressions?
When I walked in, I saw that Mark was tall and friendly looking with a nice smile, but I didn’t feel that instant spark of attraction. Still, we said hello, hugged, and I had a feeling that we would have a good time.
Easy to talk?
I would give Mark a ten out of ten for being respectful, gentlemanly, and making good conversation. He asked me about my life, my kids, and my job, and he seemed genuinely interested in my answers. We realized that we like the same 80s music (bands like Queen and Bon Jovi), but beyond that, we didn’t have much in common.
He didn’t go into much detail about why he had split up with his ex-partner. Again, I thought that was very respectful of him. He was a perfect gentleman.
Embarrassing moments?
The sole of his shoe fell off as we were leaving the restaurant. I asked him if he wanted to go buy new ones, but he said he would buy them later.
Did sparks fly?
I’m afraid that’s not the case for me. You can’t force physical attraction and Mark is a very sweet man. But there was no flirting on my part and I didn’t feel like he was flirting either.
Do you see it again?
No, but that being said, I give it a 10/10. While I don’t want to watch it again, I had an interesting and entertaining date and can’t rate it badly.
Emma said that sparks didn’t fly on her date with Mark and that “you can’t force physical attraction”
What do you think he thought of you?
Mark mentioned that he had seen me again and gave me his card, so I guess he was interested. He told me I was attractive and that any guy would be crazy not to want to date me, which was a huge compliment. But I know there’s no spark there, so I kindly let him go with a thank you and wished him the best in the future. I really hope he finds someone.
Would your family like it?
They would see that he is a real gentleman, but they would be surprised because he is just not my type physically.
Emma’s verdict: 10/10
APPRECIATED?
Mark made me laugh.
REGRETS?
No.
COFFEE OR TAXI?
Taxi.

Mark, who works as a horticultural engineer, is single, never married and has a 21-year-old son.
Current role
Horticultural engineer.
I would like to know
An honest, down-to-earth woman who speaks her mind.
Dating someone from the past?
I have had several long-term relationships, but they tend to break up because my partners have problems with their exes or their children, which has made life too complicated. I have been single for a couple of years now.
Pre-date jitters?
I had no idea what to expect, but that made it all pretty exciting.
First impressions?
Emma walked in and took my breath away. She looked gorgeous: long flowing black hair, hazel eyes and a gorgeous long yellow dress. She smiled, put her arms around me, we hugged and said hello. The nerves disappeared instantly.
Easy to talk?
Emma and I asked a lot of questions and took time to answer. I can’t understand why she’s single. She told me that one of her last partners had cheated on her and I told her he must have been a complete idiot.
However, I didn’t talk much about my own relationship history, as it was neither the time nor the place.
Emma was friendly, chatty and warm – I couldn’t have asked for a better date.
Embarrassing moments?
Yes! Twice. First, I dropped the bathroom doorknob in my hands, though luckily I didn’t get locked in. Then the sole of my shoe fell off. We both burst out laughing.
Mark says he didn’t think Emma was flirting with him and thinks they need to go on a few more dates.
Did sparks fly?
I found Emma very attractive, but I didn’t get the feeling that she was flirting with me. I think she’s one of those people who needs two or three dates to see if there’s a connection.
Do you see her again?
I gave her my business card and she already texted me back to thank me for the appointment and to check that I managed to buy some new shoes on the way home, which I did! I would love to see her again.
What do you think he thought of you?
She was very complimentary and said I was a real gentleman and funny, so I think she liked me.
Would your family like it?
Yeah, they would say, “Oh, gosh, Mark, she’s lovely,” and they would be very impressed.
Mark’s Verdict: 10/10
APPRECIATED?
We couldn’t stop chatting.
REGRETS?
None at all.
COFFEE OR TAXI?
Coffee.
