Blind Big Brother star Mikey Hughes was saved by a passerby when he fell onto a railway track just minutes before a train was due to arrive at a Scottish station.

Mikey, 48, who appeared in the reality show’s ninth season, has thanked the kind stranger who saved his life after falling onto a train track.

He was traveling to Glasgow’s Partick station on Monday morning to collect his winnings from a bet on the first night of the eviction of the new Big Brother housemates.

However, he mistakenly took the train to Hyndland station, where he ended up getting off the platform and falling onto the track.

Mikey, who had traveled independently on public transport for thirty years, said he became confused after mishearing a tannoy on the train as a result of wearing his hearing protectors.

He explained: ‘I was on my way to Partick to collect a bet after the first Big Brother eviction. I had bet fifty that Ryan would go and had to collect £75, so I was feeling pretty good.

The tannoy said something about approaching the station and I thought we had reached Partick and got off.

‘There is usually a wall next to the track at the station and when I raised my stick to touch it I couldn’t find it.

‘I thought maybe the wall had given way, I crossed the esplanade and fell directly onto the tracks. It was a five foot fall and I couldn’t hear anyone shouting at me to warn me.’

Describing the terrifying situation, he added: I didn’t even realize I was lying on the tracks at Hyndland because I was a bit dazed when I fell.

‘Fortunately, two passengers ran and helped me up before the next train arrived. It was around 7:28 am and a few minutes later there should have been one. It was a miracle they didn’t kill me and it’s pretty horrible to think about it now.

The Big Brother legend continued: ‘An ambulance came to check me and I have some cuts and bruises, and my leg hurt, but they told me my blood pressure was normal.

Mikey described the terrifying incident as a “near-death experience.”

“It was very strange, but I didn’t really know what had happened, so I didn’t feel scared at the time.

‘Everything seemed to go in slow motion and it took me a while to understand what had happened. It’s very scary to see it now.

“I probably would have sat on the track longer or even moved around on the track and on the trains if the two passengers hadn’t helped me and come to my rescue.

‘It was a man and a woman and I didn’t even know their names, but they deserve a medal. It is very likely that they saved my life.

Mikey, who is currently rehearsing for his upcoming comedy gig at the Stand Club on November 12, added: “I’ve been limping around like a bad guy in a James Bond movie, but I don’t want to let that put me off traveling alone.” again and I plan to go much slower and let people help me in the future.

“It was so nice to have the station staff come out with my hearing protectors that had fallen on the tarmac and my white beret in a bag.

‘I’ll make sure to keep my cane on the ground next time instead of waving it around like a Harry Potter wand and I won’t always wear my hearing protectors now. It sure was a near-death experience.
